What technical analysis a chart screenshot can show
BEAR GPT Education · Updated 2026-10-21 · Educational, not financial advice
Technical analysis from a chart screenshot can only talk about what is drawn: swings, highs, lows, gaps, and the path price already took. It can organize that into scenarios, an invalidation, and targets that sit on those levels. It cannot see your account, your open orders, or a headline that is not on the image.
Who this is for
Readers who want to know what a chart read is actually looking at, before they treat a paragraph of analysis as a complete view of the market. Nothing here is a trade idea.
What the candles can support
A screenshot can show market structure: whether price is making higher highs and higher lows, or the reverse, or neither. It can show obvious shelves where price stalled. Those shelves are the raw material for support and resistance language.
If the image includes drawn zones — order blocks, fair value gaps, or a Fibonacci tool someone already placed — a read can talk about those marks because they are on the picture. A bare chart does not contain an oscillator. Inventing RSI from candles alone is guessing.
What a screenshot leaves out
It leaves out position size, leverage, and whether you can afford the invalidation. It leaves out the order book and who is on the other side. It leaves out your history of revenge clicks, which matters more than another line on the chart.
It also leaves out anything that happened after the screenshot, and anything that was never plotted. A clean technical paragraph can sound complete while missing the only fact that would have changed your decision.
Two scenarios, then a choice
A careful read states the path it is describing and the path that breaks it. One path without the other is a story. Both paths still can be wrong; the chart can do a third thing.
Use the read to see whether you can explain the invalidation in one sentence. If you cannot, you do not yet have a decision. You have a picture. Passing is allowed.
What this is not
- Not a claim that technical structure predicts the next candle.
- Not a full view of the market. A screenshot is a crop.
- Not advice to trade forex, crypto, indices, stocks, or anything else.
Questions people ask
What can technical analysis see on a screenshot?
Structure and levels that are visible: swings, stalls, gaps, and tools already drawn on the image. The words should be checkable against the picture.
Can a screenshot tell me my position size?
No. Size, leverage, and what you can afford to lose are not on the chart. Those are your inputs, decided away from the candle.
If the read sounds confident, is the move likely?
Confidence in the writing is not probability in the market. A scenario can be clearly described and still fail.
